Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Albarran's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Gun Control: I believe in responsible gun ownership. I condone the current measures being taken to keeps guns out of the hands of those who are a danger to themselves or to others. We must also address the sale of firearms at gun shows, where high volumes of firearms are sold at one time.
  • Affordable College: Everyone who has the ability and the desire for a higher education should not be stopped due to finances. I would like to move toward more affordable tuitions and lowering interest rates and restructuring student loans, and raising the minimum wage. (50% of the minimum wage earners in Utah are between 18-25)
  • Every Student Succeds Act: I will defend the Every Student Succeeds Act. It increased federal funding to the state up to 12%, places more responsibility and accountability on the state administrators, and puts more emphasis on early childhood education.
  • Early Childhood Education: I support Community Action Program, Head Start, Centro de la Familia and other early childhood education programs. All have fabulous programs for low-income families. I also support programs like Upstart.org, an online early education program for everyone.
  • Paid Paternity and Maternity leave: I advocate for maternity and paternity leave. When parents have time to bond with their newborns it will build stronger families.
