What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

The economy, education, infrastructure and security

Jesus Christ, first and foremost. He's my redeemer and Lord. In an earthly sense, the oerson I have most looked up to through my life was an is my father, Chester Creighton Owen.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

1. The Bible; 2. When Character was King, by Peggy Noonan

Integrity, accountability, accessability

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Integrity, work ethic, firm belief in the US Constitution

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To be a servant to the public. Elected officials work FOR the people.

What legacy would you like to leave?

One of integrity and candor and hard work

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The first historical event I remember is watching the first moon landing and moon walk; I was age six. My parents called me in from outside to watch the event on our television.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Lifeguard, summer after my juinor year in high school. On a professional basis, my first job was my longest job; I was commissioned into the Air Force at age 23, and remained on active duty for 20 years.

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Bible; it is the guidepost for my life. As to non-religious books, my favorite is "When Character was King" by Peggy Noonan. It's a great account of the life of Ronald Reagan

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Sam Troy, from Rat Patrol

"I'm Just a Nobody" by Casting Crows and Matthew West

Every state besides Nebraska has two legislative chambers. What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?

The House in Louisiana is a much more wieldly and fluid organization. The Senate is more deliberative. The bodies are very similar in many ways.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

Not necessarily.

What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?

Trying to attract businesses and repair a collapsing economic structure.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?

Mutual respect, with each understanding the role and responsibilities as driven by the State Constitution.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Yes. I believe in cooperation, always. Relationships are critical, as people must be able to work across and within party lines. I believe in civility. I do not believe in compromising key principles, however. There are things which cannot and should not ever be compromised in a legislative sense.

If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?

I will do what is required or asked to help my State and my party.

Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Jack McFarland, Rick Edmunds

Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?

No

Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

Many more than I have time to share. I will write a book when my campaign is over. I've been to over 4,500 homes and have journaled this effort.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Louisiana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
