Charles Bourgeois is a Morehouse man, husband, father, service entrepreneur, and fearless advocate running for Atlanta City Council District 9. With two decades of impact in hospitality and civic action, he’s mobilized thousands to vote, built iconic brands, and now fights for safer streets, housing access, and true community investment. His campaign cry 'The Power of US' is a call to protect the soul of the Westside with equity, action, and bold leadership.
  • The greatest challenge in District 30318 is instability, with displacement following closely behind. North and South District 9 face vastly different realities: many residents in the south live in food deserts, attend underperforming schools, and rely on aging infrastructure, all while facing the looming threat of gentrification. A shallow tax base in South D9 makes it difficult to sustain city services, driving up costs for residents in the north. Portions of North D9 residents now face the possibility of redistricting of public schools, while property values rise and legacy residents are priced out.
  • Repairing our infrastructure is huge priority. Roadwork and street maintenance must address potholes, repaving our roads, and traffic safety, with complete streets that include protected bike lanes, pedestrian improvements, and accessible sidewalks for all residents. Modernizing our water systems is critical: replacing aging pipes, implementing smart leak detection, and integrating green infrastructure such as bioswales, permeable streets, and rain gardens to reduce flooding and protect our watersheds.
  • We must deliver on the promise of rail transit along our corridors by investing in infrastructure like Beltline Rail and committing to a groundbreaking date. By providing a fast, reliable, and safe transit rail option, we can ease the surplus of cars on our roads, reduce congestion, and create a more sustainable city. The ultimate goal is to connect our neighborhoods while ensuring working families have access to dependable and affordable transportation.
I am passionate about making Atlanta a livable city for all. This is done by innovating "attainable housing" with possible rent stabilization zones, protecting residents from displacement through tenure-based tax relief, and supporting community land trusts.
An elected official is here to serve people as a civil servant. Our job is to simply make the lives of our constituents better.
I’d like my legacy to be one of progress that put people first. I want to be remembered as someone who fought to make Atlanta more equitable, where every family—regardless of zip code—has access to safe housing, reliable transit, quality healthcare, and opportunities to thrive.
