I am a candidate aligned with progressive, working-class values for Texas House District 119. My community service includes a three-year tenure as a Zoning Commissioner for the City of San Antonio and a nine-year commitment as the Legislative Director for the Communications Workers of America. My advocacy efforts have focused on enacting legislation to shield workers from heat-related illnesses. Additionally, I have successfully championed the cause of expanding broadband access, ensuring robust labor protections at the local level. My efforts also extend to advocating for earned sick leave for workers currently without such benefits. As a union steward, I have had the honor of representing my colleagues, interpreting contractual language, and striving for equitable outcomes. I am committed to bringing the same integrity, passion, and knowledge to the state legislature and will work tirelessly to be the voice of the working class.
  • I aim to fully fund our public school system; our system and the staff that supports it have been underfunded and overtaxed. Our educators deserve the resources they need to build a brighter future for our children.
  • I am of and for the working class folks of HD 119, I will strive to represent all constituents to the best of my ability.
  • I understand how to work with others who do not see eye to eye and I enjoy finding the solutions we can agree upon.
I am passionate about public education, public health and workforce and economic development. Public schools promote the well being of a community through ensuring our children are well equipped to be successful in the world. We must do all we can to make certain they receive the funding and resources necessary to excel at this. Our district has a large and growing number of older adults, we are not doing enough to ensure their needs are being met. Our district lacks the medical resources necessary to meet the needs of the community. Asking folks needing acute care to travel thirty minutes out to the nearest equipped facility is out of the question when every second counts. Our workforce is one which typically take one two to three different jobs just to make ends meet, this should not be the case, one job should be enough.i would love to restore the balance in the workplace and make our economy's "Texas Miracle" work for all, not just those who are fortunate enough.
It can be beneficial but, more so it speaks volumes to have individuals who are of the community representing interests in the Capitol. Legislation is not rocket science and no one knows what the community needs more than people who are in it day in and day out. Legislators should not serve indefinitely, this promotes the departure from the community, they should serve, get policies advanced and return to the community.
Building relationships with other legislators is imperative to know get anything accomplished. You can not advance legislation without the necessary votes from your colleagues; when you know who they are and what is important to each of them it will help get this done.
I believe compromises are necessary but not always desirable. The true work of negotiation is finding that middle ground which both parties can stand on and feel supported.
