Charles Hardy (Arizona)
Charles Hardy is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He joined the court in 1980 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Hardy is serving on senior status.[1] Hardy died on December 24th, 2010.
Early life and education
Hardy graduated from the University of Arizona with his bachelor's degree in 1947 and later graduated from Arizona Law with his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1950. He served as a U.S. Army Captain on active duty in Field Artillery from 1941 to 1946.[1]
Professional career
Hardy became a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Arizona from 1949 to 1952 and also served as a Deputy county attorney for Maricopa County from 1952 to 1955. Hardy resumed private practice work in Arizona in 1956 before becoming Assistant Arizona Attorney General from 1957 to 1959 before serving again as a private practice attorney licensed in Arizona from 1959 to 1966. Hardy served as a superior court judge on the Maricopa County Superior Court from 1967 to 1980.[1]
Judicial nominations and appointments
District of Arizona
Hardy was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on April 2, 1980 to a seat vacated by Walter Craig. Hardy was confirmed by the US Senate on May 21, 1980 and received commission on May 23, 1980. Hardy later assumed senior status on June 2, 1990.[1] He was succeeded in this position by Stephen McNamee.
