The city of San Jose, California held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. Paul Fong and Charles Jones advanced past Richard A. McCoy, Susan Marsland, Tim Gildersleeve, Art Zimmermann and Bob Levy in the primary election for District 1. Jones defeated Fong in the general election.[1][2][3]

Safer School and Neighborhoods
- Excerpt: "We must reassess how we utilize sworn and non-sworn police department staff to address crime. Using non-sworn officers to followup and take reports will free up more sworn officers to serve on patrol and reduce call response times when residents call for help. Reinstating the Police Burglary Unit can reduce the incidents of theft by letting criminals know that we will follow up and they can be caught."
Open and accessible government
- Excerpt: "All residents must feel that they have access to their government and their representative. If elected, I will hold office hours in the district to make myself more accessible to the residents. I will also work hard to ensure every resident who wants to be involved in their city will have that opportunity."

- Excerpt: "One of the most important elements of quality of life is the ability to get a good-paying job. The city must continue to attract good paying jobs of all types to San Jose. Livable wages will help to address crime and raise the standard of living for all residents."

Short-term and long-term financial planning is vital to avoid drastic fiscal cuts to the San Jose city budget in the future. - Excerpt: "Pension reform is critical to keeping San Jose on solid financial footing. In District 1, Measure B passed with 72.6% of the voters supporting pension reform. District 1 had the highest percentage of voters in favor of Measure B relative to all of the districts in San Jose. I voted for the measure and will not waiver in my support of the voters and the City’s defense of pension reform."
