Charles R. Jones was a chief judge for the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal. He served in the position from 1991 until December 31, 2012.[1][2]

Education

Judge Jones graduated with a B.S. from Xavier University of New Orleans in 1971, and earned his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1975.[1]

Career

Judge Jones was elected to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal in 1991. He worked in private practice from 1978 to 1991. Previously, he served as a Louisiana State Representative in House District 96, was an Assistant District Attorney for the Orleans Parish from 1975 to 1978, and worked in the Orleans Indigent Defender Program from 1978 to 1979.[1]

Awards and associations

Judge Jones was chosen as Legislator of the Year in 1985 and 1987, received the Golden Apple award, and received a Certificate of Merit from the City of New Orleans in 1985 and 1990. As a Legislator, he was a member of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus.

Jones is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Appellate Judges Council, the Judicial Council, the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society of New Orleans, the Judges Association State of Louisiana, and the Association of Circuit Court Judges State of Louisiana.[1]

2012 election

Jones was defeated by Sandra Cabrina Jenkins in the general election on November 6, receiving 42.36 percent of the vote.[3][4]
