Charles J. Kahn, Jr. is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. He was appointed to this position on March 4, 2011.[1]

Prior to his appointment, he served as a judge on the Florida First District Court of Appeal. He stepped down from the bench in February 2011 to accept a position as a magistrate judge.[2]

Early life and education

Charles Kahn was born on September 14, 1951 in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1973 and went on to receive his law degree from the University of Florida in 1977. He is married with two children.[3]

Professional career

Charles Kahn began his career in 1977 as an assistant state attorney on the 12th Florida Judicial Circuit. The next year, he worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the 2nd Florida Judicial Circuit. In 1978 and 1979, he worked for the Florida Department of Transportation as a litigation attorney. After this, he worked as a private practice attorney in Pensacola until his appointment to the Court of Appeal in 1991.[3]

Judicial career

Northern District of Florida

In February 2011, Kahn was nominated to serve as a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. He succeeds Gordon M. Davis.[4]
