Charles Sulek is seeking election in November 2020 to the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals, which is comprised of Erie, Fulton, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Williams and Wood counties.

Charlie has the experience, integrity, and temperament to be a judge. He understands that judges play a crucial role in protecting the rights of individuals and businesses. Charlie believes that judges should interpret the U.S. Constitution, the Ohio Constitution, and other laws as they are written.

Charlie is a litigation attorney at the law firm of Eastman & Smith, Ltd. in Toledo, Ohio, where he advocates on behalf of clients in trial and appellate courts throughout Ohio. He previously worked as a Judicial Attorney at the Ohio Supreme Court for retired Justice Terrence O'Donnell. This position allowed him to gain in-depth knowledge of the appellate process. Charlie also worked as an Attorney Rules Analyst for the Ohio General Assembly's Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR), which is responsible for reviewing proposed rules from over 100 state agencies.

After obtaining a degree in political science from The Ohio State University, Charlie earned his law degree from Capital University Law School. He and his wife, Emma, who was born and raised in Toledo, reside in Sylvania Township with their children. The Sulek family enjoys spending time exploring Northwest Ohio, going to farmers' markets, reading books, and playing sports in their backyard.
  • Charlie is fair, impartial, and dedicated to the law.
  • Charlie believes that judges should interpret the U.S. Constitution, the Ohio Constitution, and other laws as they are written.
  • Charlie believes that judges should not legislate from the bench.
It is always important to do what is right even when you think no one is watching. This is a lesson my parents taught me, and it is one that my wife and I are teaching our kids. One way judges do this is by making decisions based on the law and free from political considerations. I will work hard every day to earn and keep the trust of the people.
The first historical event that I remember is the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. I learned of the attacks while sitting in my 8th grade classroom. These events caused me to have a heightened sense of patriotism and taught me that what unites us as a people is much greater than what divides us.
Judges play a crucial role in protecting the rights of individuals and businesses. Judges must also respect the roles of the other branches of government. I believe, therefore, that judges must be committed to interpreting the U.S. Constitution, the Ohio Constitution, and other laws as they are written and that they should not legislate from the bench.
I am running because I believe it is critical that we have judges who are committed to making decisions based on the law and not their personal or political preferences. I also believe my experience, which includes working as a litigation attorney and as a Judicial Attorney at the Ohio Supreme Court, prepared me be a judge.
