Charles Wells (Florida)
Charles T. Wells was an associate justice of the Florida Supreme Court. He joined the court on June 16, 1994, after being appointed by Democratic Governor Lawton Chiles. He served as Chief Justice from June 2000 through June 2002. During his tenure, Wells presided over the cases regarding the disputed presidential election of 2008.[1]
In early March of 2009, Wells retired from the court after reaching the mandatory retirement age.[2] James Perry was appointed as his replacement.
Wells announced plans to join the law firm Gray Robinson after leaving the high court.[3]
Education
Justice Wells received his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1961 and his J.D. degree from the University of Florida in 1964.[1]
Career
After receiving his law degree, Wells joined the firm of Maguire, Voorhis, and Wells, P.A. In 1969, he joined the United States Department of Justice. After one year, he returned to Maguire, Voorhis and Wells where he worked until 1976. At that time, Wells started the firm Wells, Gattis, Hallowes and Carpenter, P.A.[1]
Elections
Wells was retained to the court in 2008.[4]
