This measure sought to renew the current transit levy which is be set at a rate of $.25 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for transit operational costs in the county.[2]
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
Shall the previously voted increase in the 15-mill tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution on the general ad valorem taxes within Charlevoix County be renewed at 0.25 mill ($0.25 per $1000 of taxable value) for a period of four (4) years 2013 through 2016, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of the County Transit System; and shall the County levy such renewal in millage for said purpose, thereby raising in the first year an estimated $504,628.[3] |
