Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am an 8th generation Georgian, who grew up on a cattle farm in rural west Georgia. I earned undergraduate degrees in Religion and Political Science from the University of Georgia and a JD from the University of Georgia’s School of Law. My career has been driven by the principle of fighting to get justice for those who have been wronged. As a Senior Assistant District Attorney in Fulton County, I went up against some of the most dangerous criminals in the state by prosecuting organized crime. I’ve also practiced criminal justice reform in the courtroom and understand how the criminal justice system in Georgia must be improved to reflect the essential fairness of which every person in this state is deserving. Also, working with Former Gov. Barnes and the legendary Bobby Lee Cook, I’ve represented clients who were hurt by the wrongdoing of others, such as victims of medical malpractice, school teachers who were wrongfully denied their retirement benefits, and small businesses who were taken advantage of by big corporations.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• Charlie will join the fight to raise teacher pay and invest in new hires, and reduce our class sizes. He is committed to bringing back tuition free technical school, so Georgia students can compete for the best jobs in today’s economy.
• Charlie will work on legislation to fill the Medicaid coverage gap, so that 600,000 more Georgians can be insured. Expanding Medicaid will not only provide insurance to hardworking Georgians, but also provide relief to the many rural hospitals that face closure due to financial stress.
• As a former gang prosecutor, Charlie understands the need of paying law enforcement officers a living wage, funding training programs to keep us safe, and treating every Georgian with the respect they deserve. He will prioritize funding the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s state crime lab so that sexual assault test kits are not put on hold for months or even years.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

As a former prosecutor, I know the importance of a fair and efficient criminal justice system. I have practiced criminal justice reform in the courtroom and understand how the criminal justice system in Georgia must be improved to reflect the essential fairness of which every person in this state is deserving. I will ensure that our law enforcement officers are at least paid a living wage so that thousands aren’t living below the poverty line, and that there is funding allocated to training that will help them keep us safe, keep themselves safe, and treat everyone they meet with the respect they deserve. I will prioritize funding the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s state crime lab, so that police and prosecutors aren’t waiting for months or even years for ballistics tests and backlogged sexual assault kits tests. Those efforts will let us get justice for victims and ensure that innocent people aren’t wrongly put in jail because evidence hasn’t been tested.
