2016

McConkey's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Build a stronger middle class

  • From the very beginning, Charlie’s passion for progress was fueled by a desire to knock down the unavoidable barriers low and middle-income Iowans face simply for not coming from wealth. Iowans who don’t have the luxury of being able to afford college or even to make a wage that puts food on the table. Charlie wants to change that. He understands the toll these disadvantages take and will continue to take if we don’t provide working class Iowans with the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. That’s why Charlie ran, that’s why he was elected, and that’s what he’s beginning to do in Des Moines. By working to create quality Iowa jobs, making sure our public schools are strong, and fighting for working and middle class families, Charlie works everyday for the people of Council Bluffs and Carter Lake.[9]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Iowa

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
