Charlie Smith Dannelly (b. August 13, 1924) is a former Democratic member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 38 from 1995 - 2013.

Dannelly was a City Council member from 1977 to 1989. In 2003, he became Deputy President Pro Tempore in the senate.

Dannelly initially declared for re-election but later announced prior to the primary that he would not in fact seek another term.[1][2]

Dannelly was unopposed in the primary election on May 4, 2010.[4]

On November 4, 2008, Dannelly was elected to the 38th District Seat in the North Carolina State Senate, besting James Soder (R) and C. Travis Wheat (L).[5] Dannelly raised $41,586 for his campaign, while Soder and Wheat did not raise any money.[6]

Dannelly earned his B.A. in education from Johnson C. Smith University in 1962. He went on to receive his M.Ed in Administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1966.

Dannelly was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army 82nd Airborne from 1951 to 1954. He was then a teacher for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools from 1962 to 1963. From 1963 to 1966 he worked as Assistant Principal for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He then became Principal of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and worked in that position until 1991.

Dannelly and his wife Rose have one child.
