Born in Hillsboro, IL, I am the son of a Vietnam veteran and a factory worker. I am a graduate of Mulberry Grove High School, Saint Louis University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Garrett-Evangelical with a Ph.D. in ethics. I am an Afghanistan veteran and currently still serve as a chaplain, major, in the United States Army Reserve, and I have been a Journeyman Laborer out of Labor Local 1084 since 2002.
  • Illinois as a state and the 95th as a district deserves leadership that will put partisan politics aside and work for all of our futures. I am that leadership.
  • Providing long-term sustainable solutions to invigorate our economy demands legislation that will support the small business owner and union member alike.
  • The same commitment that I have made to serving our country over the last 13 years I make to serving the community that raised me.
Having served alongside the men and women who defend our nation and way of life for over 13 years as a chaplain, I can say with my whole heart that behavioral/mental health issues remain something I am deeply passionate about. Recognizing that our veteran community alone does not have a monopoly on things like post-traumatic stress and the rigors of life, rural behavioral health resources and advancements in accessibility is something that I not only have exhaustive experience in but remain committed to.
Selfless service. Integrity in all you do. Never forgetting where you come from, and always placing the voice of the people and will of the district first.
Integrity.

Honesty.
Bi-partisan commitment.
Servant leadership.

Leadership that has been tested in combat and under pressure.
A better future for the posterity of the State of Illinois, committing to unite, not divide, for the interests of all the citizens of our state.
My first job as an adult was working as a journeyman laborer during an outage at the CIPS powerhouse in Coffeen, IL. I worked regularly out of my labor hall after graduating high school and remain a dues-paying member of Labor Local 1084.
The Things They Carried, by Tim O'Brien.
It shows the beauty, tragedy, and resilience of a soldier's story.
Bipartisan action and collaboration with not just other legislators of my own party, but across the aisle, cannot simply be a myth or memory. Working, healthy, and honest relationships with other legislators, both from districts that resemble my own and those that do not, will prove crucial for advancing the future of our state.

I met a female veteran struggling to pay for her prescription costs, who opens her garage every weekend and provides clean, gently used clothing and household goods for anyone in her community who could use them free of cost. Despite her own economic struggles, she remains committed to serving her community in any way that she can. After serving her country for 15 years, and struggling through her own health issues, it's people like her who continue to give back to our community, regardless of who you are, where you come from, or how you vote, that make the 95th an incredible district, and drive me to fight harder every day for the future of our communities.
