An effort to recall councilwoman Chauna Banks-Daniel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from her position was launched in October 2013. Donald Ray Adams has spearheaded the recall effort.[1] Because of a missed filing deadline, the recall did not go to a vote.[2]
Recall proponent arguments
Regarding his reasons for initiating the recall, Adams said, "My whole concern in the district, and our district now -- it's not getting better, it's getting worse." He added that Banks-Daniel did not maintain a consistent presence in the community.[1]
James Slaughter, a recall supporter and opponent to Banks-Daniel in the 2012 election, has challenged Banks-Daniel on her role in the termination of Carl Slaughter (James's brother) from his role at the Jewel J. Newman Community Center.[1]
Official's response
Banks-Daniel said, "It's hard for me to speak on the recall. I still don't know anything about it. There's not one person who has indicated to me that they've been approached about the recall or asked to sign anything." She has also suggested that Adams and Slaughter are targeting her for personal reasons.[1]

Adams filed the recall paperwork in October 2013 and has been collecting signatures since then. As of late December 2013, Adams and his supporters had gathered roughly half of the 7,151 signatures required to trigger a recall election. The deadline to file completed petitions was April 15, 2014.[1] Supporters did not collect enough signatures to move the recall forward.[2]
