Chelsea Clinton is the vice chair of the Clinton Foundation.[3] Chelsea Clinton is also an adjunct professor at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health.[4] She is the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton

Background

Chelsea Clinton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1980.[5] She graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's in history, and earned a master's degree from Oxford University and one from Columbia University.[6][1] In 2014, Clinton graduated with a doctorate in international relations from Oxford.[2][3] In 2003, after she earned her master's at Oxford, she returned to the U.S. and began working with the consulting firm, McKinsey & Company, in New York.[7] In 2006, she joined Avenue Capital Group, a New York-based global investment firm.[8]

Work and activities

Journalism

In 2011, Clinton had joined NBC News as a special correspondent.[9] She worked on Rock Center with Brian Williams until the show's cancellation in 2013; however, Clinton remained with the network. Her contract, in early 2014, was renewed on a month-to-month basis. Politico noted that Clinton's annual salary with the network was $600,000.[10] During this time, Clinton was also active with the Clinton Foundation and working on her Ph.D.[10][2]

In September 2015, Clinton published It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going, in which Clinton writes about how kids can make change in their world. The book includes stories, graphs and pictures to deal with issues of "poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, access to education, gender equality, epidemics, non-communicable diseases, climate change, and endangered species."[11]

Board membership

Clinton serves on a number of boards, including the School of American Ballet, the Africa Center, the Weill Cornell Medical College, and serves as the co-chair of the advisory board of the Of Many Institute at NYU.[3][6]

Clinton was appointed the vice chair of the Clinton Foundation in 2013 and has worked on a number of its programs and initiatives.[7] When she became vice chair, the foundation name, which had been the William J. Clinton Foundation, was changed to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.[7] As vice chair, according to Politico, Clinton helped to "develop and implement improvements including conflict-of-interest restrictions, Internet and email security and cooperation across the foundation’s initiatives."[7]

Clinton has served on the board of the Clinton Foundation's Clinton Health Access Initiative since 2011.[7] The initiative focuses on helping people living with HIV/AIDS and other global diseases in at-risk countries.[12][3]

Clinton is active with the foundation's Alliance for a Healthier Generation program, which seeks to fight childhood obesity in the U.S., and the Clinton Health Matters Initiative, which brings to light preventable diseases in the U.S.[4]

Political activity

Clinton quit her job with Avenue Capital Group in 2008, when her mother, Hillary Clinton (D), began her first presidential bid.[7] Chelsea Clinton campaigned for her mother on over 100 college campuses and introduced her at the Democratic National Convention.[8][7] She also spoke at over 400 town hall meetings in 2008 campaigning for her mother.[9]

In 2016, Clinton spoke at the Democratic National Convention.[13]
