Mother of three. Lifelong Alaskan and product of the Anchorage Public schools.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Transparency and budget

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Make Government work for you.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, integrity, dedication

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I am extremely passionate for providing the opportunity for ALL kids to succeed regardless of what backgrounds they may be coming from.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Accountability and budget transparency.

What legacy would you like to leave?

To create a transparent board that can fully come together to create a great community school district that we are all proud of. I hope to see the students the success they can achieve and offer the teachers the support the deserve.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

9/11 I was 18 years old. Just graduated and that forever changed my life and perception of the world.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Baskin Robbins . An entire summer many years ago.

What is your favorite book? Why?

The tattooist of Auschwitz’s. Its shows complete despair and disgust , but how you can work hard to achieve love and overcome.
The Thornbirds- it’s just beautifully written.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

My personal upbringing and family life. Moving many times through the earlier years to various schools.

What is the primary job of a school board member in your view?

To oversee and work with the administration of that district. Make policies and set priorities that best serve the teachers, students, community.

How would you support the diverse needs of your district’s students, faculty, staff, and community?

Release the barriers from the top heavy management and get some support directly to the classrooms.

How will you build relationships with members of the broader community? Which groups, organizations, stakeholders will you specifically target?

ALL AND ANY!

What constitutes good teaching? How will you measure this? How will you support advanced teaching approaches?

I believe there is evidence suggesting that other teaching methods may produce some real results, I think it’s appropriate to have the discussion for what works and what may need some improvements to give our kids the best and for our community.

In what areas would you like to expand curriculum? For example, do you see a need for advanced technical training or apprenticeships? What sort of innovative programming would you advance if given the opportunity?

I would like to see a little more hands on learning. I like the idea of apprenticeships.

What strategies or plans would you advance to ensure the schools are properly funded?

A balanced budget that includes transparency and truth.

What principles drive your policies for safety in schools?

We absolutely need to keep our kids safe.

How might you support the mental health needs of students/faculty/staff?

We should train specialists for that area. And work with them to find sensible solutions that work best for all.

What existing district policies would you like to change, or what new policies would you like to implement?

I believe there is room for conversation about CRT that I believe has potential to cause division. I would like to implement more life skills training for students that may not be as college bound.

Describe your ideal learning environment for students.

In Class.

How do you feel like your school district handled the coronavirus pandemic? What, if anything, would you do differently in the future?

I believe we all could have done much better! I believe we failed our students and community greatly, and it will take time to make those years up both socially as well as accidmically.

What will you do to build a relationship with parents in the district?

currently volunteering in my children’s school a couple times a week. I see firsthand the struggles and gains being made that impact the studio and staff and families firsthand. I think it’s important to get involved and work directly within when you are available!

What are your preferred strategies for faculty, staff, and administration recruitment?

We must have financial transparency and hold elected officials to higher accountability.
