Chelsey Curney is running for the Jonesboro City Council this November. She is a Navy veteran and former educator at Morehouse College who strongly supports veterans, education, and the citizens of this great city. As a Lieutenant in the Navy, she has driven multi-billion dollar ships in contested international waters while collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds. She moved to Jonesboro and purchased a home four years ago, drawn by the affordable housing, low crime rate, and strong sense of community. Chelsey loves Jonesboro and believes the community is progressing—but that progress can only continue through unity. She emphasizes that every senior, child, parent, and professional plays a role in shaping the city’s future. With a seat on the council, she pledges to ensure residents' needs are met and that their voices are heard. As Atlanta prepares for a projected 200% expansion over the next 15-20 years, Chelsey believes Jonesboro must be ready to face this challenge head-on with fresh ideas and innovative solutions. She asks for the community’s support at the polls on November 4th and encourages voters to spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors. Together, Chelsey Curney believes Jonesboro can continue moving forward.
I’m running for Jonesboro City Council to help build a greener, safer, and more inclusive future—where innovation meets community, and every resident, especially our veterans and working families, has the opportunity to thrive. As a Navy veteran, transportation professional, and lifelong public servant, I bring both the technical expertise and heart to move Jonesboro forward—together.
The skills or expertise that would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess are leadership, management, and discipline. I'm a product of two HBCUs—Florida A&M University and Clark Atlanta University—I’m a 30-year-old transportation and infrastructure project manager, certified in project management (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and business leadership (MBA). My service in the U.S. Navy taught me discipline, resilience, and what it means to lead by example. Now, I’m ready to serve my community right here in Jonesboro.
Working Families Party, Clayton County Democrats, GA State Rep. Eric Bell, GA State Senator Gail Davenport, and Chairwoman of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry.
I'm am extremely proud of earning my Surface Warfare Officer qualification. It was very hard to get and I couldn't have been more thankful for everyone that helped along the way.
