Chemical Specialties Manufacturers Association v. Deukmejian concerned California Proposition 105, the Public's Right to Know Act, which voters approved on November 8, 1988. On August 10, 1989, before Proposition 105 was scheduled to take effect, Chemical Specialties Manufacturers Association (CSMA) filed the lawsuit seeking to have the results of the initiative declared void. CSMA argued that the initiative violated the state's single-subject rule.
The California Court of Appeals ruled that two provisions of the initiative could not be construed as the same subject. The court ruled against Proposition 105.
