Cherí Thomas has a broad range of experience working on a variety of legal issues. Cherí has managed cases at all stages of litigation and has extensive experience as an appellate advocate. Cherí is particularly well-suited to become a Justice on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals as her legal career has focused on legal research and writing, the principal work of an appellate court. Cherí knows what it takes to review appeals accurately and efficiently, and her experience as a litigator will give her an edge as an appellate judge.

Cherí has trained with and mentored excellent lawyers throughout her career. Working with them has given her the skills to be a good Justice: good judgment and the ability to perform rigorous, meticulous legal analysis. If elected, Cherí will work to ensure Texas is a state we are proud to call home, one that values equality, dignity, generosity, and compassion. She will work hard, make well-reasoned decisions, and treat everyone with fairness and respect.

  • Cherí has the skills to properly apply the law to the facts, and she understands that judicial decisions affect real people and real families appearing before the court.
  • Cherí is open-minded, willing to listen and consider all sides of each party's position. She has maintained, and will continue to maintain, high ethical standards. Cherí's words and actions show fairness and respect for others, no matter their personal characteristics or station in life.
  • Cherí has a strong work ethic and values efficiency but not at the expense of substance. She is professional, even-tempered, cooperative, and principled.
Judges should be intelligent, experienced, ethical, and demonstrate judicial temperament. Two definitions of judicial temperament resonate with Cheri: one has been attributed to Socrates and the other is from the American Bar Association. Socrates believed judges were "to hear courteously, to answer wisely, to consider soberly, and to decide impartially." The American Bar Association has defined good judicial temperament as "compassion, decisiveness, open-mindedness, sensitivity, courtesy, patience, freedom from bias and commitment to equal justice."

Cherí also believes judges should educate the community about our justice system and that judges should also participate in the community to increase their own knowledge, to be open to new ideas, evolving attitudes, legal developments, and change in general.
