Cherylin Peniston is a former Democratic member of the Colorado House of Representatives, representing District 35 from 2007 to 2015. Peniston did not seek re-election in 2014.

Biography

Peniston's professional experience includes working as a substitute teacher at Scott Carpenter Middle School from 2003-2006, President of the Westminster Education Association form 1999-2003 and a social studies/foreign languages teacher at Scott Carpenter Middle School from 1971-1999.

Colorado Senate Bill 57

As a member of the Colorado House Education Committee, Peniston voted against Colorado Senate Bill 57, also known as the Public School Financial Transparency Act, a bill to create transparency in state education expenditures. Peniston received substantial campaign contributions from the Colorado Education Association, which lobbied against the bill's passage.[1]

Political courage tests

Peniston provided answers to the Colorado State Legislative Election 2008 Political Courage Test. The test informs voters how a candidate would vote on the issues if elected. She did not reply when asked her legislative priorities.[2]

Peniston won re-election in the 2012 election for Colorado House of Representatives District 35. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 26, 2012. She defeated Brian Vande Krol (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[3]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Peniston won re-election to the 35th District seat in the Colorado House of Representatives, defeating opponent Tracy Gimer (R).[4]

Peniston raised $25,658 for her campaign, while Gimer raised $27.[5]
