Five seats on the Chesterfield County Public Schools School Board were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The seats of all five incumbents were up for election.[1]

Challengers John Erbach and Michael Jackson competed for the Dale District seat vacated by board member David Wyman. Erbach won the open seat. Since Matoaca District member Thomas Doland did not file for re-election, the seat was left open to candidates Bill Hastings Jr. and Rob Thompson. Thompson won seat.

Incumbents Carrie Coyner and Dianne Smith and newcomer Javaid Siddiqi ran unopposed and won the Bermuda District, Clover Hill District and Midlothian District seats, respectively. Midlothian District board member Debra Girvin also did not file for re-election.

Chesterfield County Public Schools is located in east-central Virginia in Chesterfield County. This county was home to 332,499 residents in 2014, according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Chesterfield County Public Schools was the fifth-largest school district in Virginia and served 59,200 students.[3]

Demographics

Chesterfield County outperformed the rest of Virginia in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 36.3 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 35.2 percent for Virginia as a whole. The median household income in Chesterfield County was $72,088, compared to $63,907 for the state of Virginia. The poverty rate was 6.7 percent, compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[2]

The general election was held on November 3, 2015. The next scheduled election for all five seats was 2019.
