Chicago, Illinois: Judge Peter Flynn, of the Cook County 3rd Subcircuit Court, has been thrust into the mayhem surrounding the Chicago public-school teachers strike. Though pressured by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to rule the strike illegal and send teachers back to work, Flynn has announced that he needs more time to decide. A hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 19.
The Chicago Public Schools filed a complaint against the Chicago Teachers Union, seeking a preliminary injunction from Flynn to end the strike immediately. Some think that Flynn, who is up for retention this November, doesn't want to rock the boat too much before the election.[1][2]
