The Child Welfare Legislative Oversight Panel is a joint interim committee of the Utah State Legislature that no longer fell within Ballotpedia's coverage scope as of March 2021.

Function

The Legislature has charged the Panel to:
  • examine and observe the process and execution of laws governing the child welfare system by the executive branch and the judicial branch;
  • receive testimony from the public and from all state agencies administering the child welfare system;
  • receive reports identifying cases not in compliance with judicial time limits;
  • study and recommend proposed changes to laws governing the child welfare system;
  • recommend, as the Panel considers advisable, budgetary proposals;
  • study actions the state can take to preserve, unify, and strengthen a child's family ties, whenever that is possible and whenever it is in the child's best interest; and
  • perform other duties related to the oversight of the child welfare system the Panel considers appropriate.[1][2]
