I’ve dedicated the last 10 years to public service in Portland, serving on the board of directors and strategic planning committee for Raphael House, as well as on committees for Soho House Portland and the Portland Art Museum. My government experience includes being on the advisory council for the Portland Police Bureau. As a parent in Portland Public Schools, I know the hustle of single parenthood, and that’s the same determination I’ll bring to the City Council. I love Portland and believe in its potential, and I refuse to give up on this city.
  • We need some hustle to boost our businesses by reducing the bureaucratic hurdles such as streamlining the permitting process, loosening the criteria to receive funding, and tax incentives for our brick and mortars.
  • We NEED some hustle to shut down fentanyl and get people into treatment. We HAVE to treat our addiction crisis with a full continuum of recovery services alongside wrap-around support like housing and drive out the cartels and dealers that are killing Portlanders every day.
  • We NEED some hustle to fix the situation on our streets. I want to end unsanctioned street camping, and we can do that by building and siting more shelters and recovery housing. People experiencing homelessness in our city need a safe place to go.
I am passionate about economic development public policies in the city of Portland. I believe that fostering a strong local economy is essential for creating opportunities, supporting small businesses, and enhancing the overall quality of life for our community.
My favorite book would have to be The Last Lecture by Jeffrey Zaslow and Randy Pausch. I've read it at least 5 or 6 times. It really shone a light on moments, experiences, and opportunities for advancement in life that we often take for granted. Throughout the book, Pausch faces his mortality while dealing with a terminal cancer diagnosis and looks at his life retrospectively. It's so touching and left me with not only more grace for others but for myself too.
Akasha Lawrence-Spence, former Oregon House Representative and State Senator. Shannon Jones Isadore, Oregon House of Representatives. Carmen Rubio, City Commissioner and Mayoral Candidate.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are essential. My constituents deserve to have clear access to the city’s financial information, as this fosters trust and empowers them to engage in the decision-making process. Holding our government accountable is imperative for ensuring that resources are used effectively and that we are serving the needs of the community. I am committed to promoting transparency and advocating for measures that enhance accountability in our local government.
