Chris Brown, retired teacher of 32 years with the North Kansas City School District. I have been married to my beautiful wife Angela for 22 years and we have two kids, Nicholas 20 and Ashley 18 who both Graduated from Staley High School. I graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas with a BA in Social Studies with a minor in Education and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. I am also a licensed realtor for over 30 years and occasionally help my wife with residential sales but primarily I manage our families rental properties. I enjoy the outdoors in particular the Lake of the Ozarks fishing and boating or just relaxing.
  • One key message I would like people to remember is that I'm a 32 year teacher. To teach high school for 32 years I feel it gives me perspective. I have seen kids, parents, athletes, administrators, from all walks of life and situations. I feel this gives me an ability to work with people, get along with people, and eventually find solutions to common problems. Teaching is a people centered service industry......I believe the same is true in political public service. Public servants should represent people, serve people, and find common ground and solutions to benefit people.
  • Common sense.....I want to make sure folks understand that I operate in a world of reality and sensible decision making for practical, common sense outcomes. Society today is saturated with social media that at times seems unrealistic, unbelievable, if not out right crazy. I don't operate in crazy. My friends call me the common sense candidate because my personal political focus is on issues that most voters truly care about.
  • Trusted, I want to make sure that voters understand that I can be trusted. I can be trusted to represent the 16 District the way my constituents would want. I always try and vote my constituents first, my conscious second, and my Caucus third. The voters in District 16 can trust that I will work on their behalf. In the four years I have been in the legislature I have sponsored and passed legislation that is meaningful to our district.......issues ranging from law enforcement, to education, to economic development.
Law enforcement, economic development, and education.
I don't necessarily have a book but I do find myself thinking about passages of the Federalist Papers.
I would like to be recognized as someone who left the district and state a better place for the contributions that I made.
I grew up in a rural setting, my first job was working on farms, putting up bales of hay and straw, cutting shatter cane out of milo or weeds out of soybeans. I believe I was paid $3.00 per hour. It was hard work but built character.
Should be positive....ideally you would not see high profile public disagreements between the chief executive and the legislature.
Mainly life experiences.....have you worked a job, started a business, raised a family......do you have years of life experiences that you can draw from to help in your decision making.
Absolutely, politics is a team sport. You need people to help you be successful. I have been in the legislature long enough to see some folks get elected and feel like they are the Lone Ranger.......usually that means not there much longer. There are 163 members in the Missouri House, 34 in the Senate, you need support to get policy done.
Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99, Firefighters IAFF Local 42, Mid America Carpenters, Missouri NEA, Missouri State Teachers Association, NFIB National Federation of Independent Business,
This last term I was Chairman of Small Business, I was also on Economic Development, Workforce and Infrastructure Development, Crime Prevention and Public Safety, Special Committee on Property Tax Reform

Just retired from a 32 year teaching career entirely with the North Kansas City School District. Primarily taught Advanced Placement Government & Politics and History. Also coached football & wrestling for many years as well.  I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Benedictine College in Social Studies with a Minor in Education as well as a Masters Degree from Benedictine in Educational Administration. I am also a licensed Realtor and co-own two real estate businesses with my wife.  I have been married 18 years to my wife Angela, we have two children Nicholas 16 and Ashley 14.

  • I think the first key point would be experience. I have been living in the 16th district for over 30 years. I have raised my family here. Turning 55 this year I have many life experiences to draw upon and relate to the legislative agenda. Whether it be education, real estate, small business, teaching AP Government, it is my hope from a vast array of experiences it can help me be a more effective legislator.

  • Some of my friends are calling my campaign the "common sense campaign", meaning I hope to bring common sense decision making and policy making to the legislature. I think people are so tired of the political polarization of our system today. I hope to find some common ground based on practical, common sense decision making.
  • Integrity. I will do my utmost to be worthy of the trust of the voters in District 16.
K-12 Education. The backbone of any community is the local school system. We need to ensure our schools are fully funded and our teacher and adminstrators have the resources needed to provide all Missouri students with a world class education.

Pro growth policies for small business. The economy is driven by small business, I think it is important to set up as accommodating environment as possible to promote small business start up and growth.

Missouri budget. I would really like to be on the budget committee. So much of what happens legislatively is a consequence of budget decisions. The fiscal conservative in me wants to make sure taxpayer money is being spent in the most cost effective manner possible.
I grew up in NE Kansas in a farming community, my first job was putting up hay and straw for local farmers. This was in the late 1970's early 80's, I think I was making 3.00 and hour.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Missouri

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Missouri scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
