2016
A special election for the position of Texas House of Representatives District 120 was called for May 7. A special runoff election was held on August 2.[1] The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7.[2]
The seat was vacant following Ruth Jones McClendon's (D) resignation on January 31, 2016.[3]
Latronda Darnell (D), Chris Dawkins (D), Lou Miller (D), and Laura Thompson (I) ran in the special election. Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters, Thompson and Miller, faced off in a special runoff election, which Thompson won.[4][5][6]
