Campaign themes

2014

Eggen's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]

Transportation

  • Excerpt: "I will work for a state Transportation Package that includes transit. Washington needs to invest in transportation to move people and goods, and that investment requires a transit component to get people in urban areas to work and to reduce congestion. This package must contain provisions to ensure greater accountability so that the problems that have plagued so many state road projects don’t happen again."

Creating Jobs

  • Excerpt: "Government needs to be a partner in creating family wage jobs. It is unconscionable that people who work 30 – 40 hours/week still need public assistance. I will work for legislation that will provide services and a regulatory environment for business to help them provide a living wage and help build the dynamic skilled workforce they need to be successful."

Democratic Values

  • Excerpt: "I am pro-choice and favor equal opportunity for all, including women. I was raised by a single mother and learned at an early age that women are as tough and productive as men. I have supported women’s equality in my home, at my work, and in politics and will work to ensure we are doing everything we can as a state to provide equal opportunity for all."

Building Strong Communities

  • Excerpt: "I believe in providing some state funding for workforce housing. In the 32nd LD District, we have teachers, social workers, and police officers who cannot afford to live in our cities. If we ever hope to reduce greenhouse emissions and costs of transportation, we need policies the promote quality housing for working people."

The Environment

  • Excerpt: "Washington needs investments in renewable energy and natural habitat for salmon to spawn. Our children’s future depends on a livable environment. I am a strong supporter of growth management to preserve forests and farmlands. On the Shoreline City Council I was a champion for parks and responsible environmental policies."
