Chris Fields was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Minnesota. He lost in the general election.

Biography

Fields was born in The Bronx, New York, the first of three children to an unwed teenage mother. Fields went to Bronx Regional High School, where he graduated valedictorian. After high school, Fields enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 21 years, eventually earning his commission and attaining the rank of Major. Fields retired from the Marines in 2011.

After retiring, Fields settled permanently in Minneapolis to join his wife, who owns a Minneapolis-based law firm.

Fields was the endorsed Republican candidate in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Minnesota's 5th District. Fields was endorsed in a convention on April 14, 2012, with over 75% of the vote on the first ballot. Fields did not have a challenger in the August 14 Primary election. He lost to Democratic incumbent Keith Ellison in the November general election.

Excerpt: "Adopt the “Chilean Model” for Social Security, which creates individual social security accounts. We can end the days of politicians using our own hard-earned money to bribe and scare us."

Excerpt: "Create a more competitive environment for Medicare: In order for Medicare to be sustainable, we must have tort reform, the ability to buy health insurance across state lines, thus increasing competition. Medicare, along with other entitlement programs, must be means tested."
