Campaign themes

2016

Hardin highlighted the following issues in his campaign website. Please note that the quotes below are excerpts and more complete information can be found on the campaign website.[5]

  • Immigration: "The United States immigration policy is seriously flawed and as a direct result has become a national security issue threatening the sovereignty of this great nation. Our current immigration policy breeds lawlessness and is inherently dangerous to every American citizen. ... The importance of solving this issue cannot be stressed enough – our national security depends on it."
  • National security: "National Security begins with securing our borders and the immediate resurrection of deportations in this country. It is impossible to have a safe and secure country without both of these occurring simultaneously. The best way to avoid future problems is to ensure that we are the most elite powerful fighting force in the world with no exception. That means giving our military the funding and the personnel to handle this. We must mandate to Washington DC that we are going to stop giving countries that hate us any foreign aid. We must do everything humanly possible to revoke this Iranian deal which offers the United States nothing and makes the world a much more dangerous place. We must be able to continually identify our enemies all throughout the world, keeping them in our sights, while also standing with our allies, specifically Israel."
  • Taxes: "We must simplify the tax code and eliminate the IRS. All taxes hamper economic growth; therefore, all taxes should be as minimal as possible to avoid stagnation of economy. Simplifying the tax code could be accomplished by the fair tax, a flat tax, or a consumption tax. I would not stand opposed to any system that reduces taxes, simplifies the tax code, and lets more hard working Americans keep more of their money."
  • Obamacare: "Obamacare has been a complete disaster since its origin. This administration lied throughout the deliberations of this bill. We the people elected this Congress on their word that they would repeal this draconian law or at least defund it. Unfortunately, many politicians put politics over people, regardless of their campaign promises, keeping this job crushing law in its place. This law is a great example of judicial activism by the Supreme Court and a Congress unwilling to stand and fight that judicial activism. Congress could have stood up to the Supreme Court and the Obama administration by defunding Obamacare through reconciliation. Congress under this leadership, that the majority of representatives voted for, have been completely unwilling to take any real stand. I will vote against any budget that funds this job and freedom destroying law."
  • Right to life: "I believe that life begins at conception. I will support any legislation that bans late term [sic]abortions other than to protect the life of the mother due to a medical emergency or condition. Additionally, I will oppose any piece of legislation and any budget that includes any government funding of abortion. I will be a strong advocate of funding to assist in the adoption process in lieu of Planned Parenthood. There is a clear need for a better connection point between crisis youth pregnancies and couples looking to adopt. We as a society owe it to our youth to present them with safe and healthy choices that will allow them to make pro-life decisions if they choose. I will always stand for life!"
  • Jobs and the economy: "Jobs and the economy poll extremely high as to what is important to the American people. We need to be creating jobs in lieu of destroying jobs through excessive government regulations. ... Government regulations are preventing or delaying many business from opening or expanding while almost completely destroying other industries, such as coal. It is time to utilize our large deposits of natural resources through drilling to become energy independent from countries in the Middle East. It will produce jobs all over the country and lead us into an economic boom. Our country should refrain from entering trade deals that integrate America’s economy with many other nations. In doing so, these actions would create an economic burden of international regulations that bring harm to business, families, and freedom."
  • 2nd Amendment: "I will oppose any legislation or executive actions that attempt to limit our constitutional right to bear arms. The Second Amendment is very clear in its meaning in that the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. It provides the people of this country the guarantee of sovereignty."
  • Education: "The Department of Education should be eliminated as the United States Constitution doesn’t give the federal government the authority to control education. Education needs to be administered and monitored by parents, local school boards, and the states. Common Core and No Child Left Behind are both examples of goliath, top down government control approaches that have failed the youth of our nation. Both of these programs are great examples of big government overreach not working and a system that just keeps dumping money at the problem with negative outcomes. The government controlled student loan program needs to be turned back over to the private sector."
  • Export-Import Bank: "This program is another example of the federal government leaving the taxpayers on the hook for nearly 140 billion in the Ex-Im loan portfolio. The Ex-Im bank provides less than 1/10 of 1% of the export financing for America’s small businesses. We must end this crony capitalist bank for good. This is another great example of Congressman and Senators listening to the lobbyists and not the American people."
  • Fiscal responsibility: "Analyzation of current government spending would quickly show that much of the spending would not fit into the original criteria of the federal government. In fact, you could argue, much of the current government spending should be discontinued simply because the federal government does not have the right to use tax dollars on the causes that it has chosen. We are now allocating federal dollars way beyond the proper scope of government. The current level of government spending has reached a point, that no level of taxation would close the deficit in the federal budget. We have set a course of spending that is NOT SUSTAINABLE and that will require heaving borrowing in perpetuity."
  • Term limits: "Term limits are a must for the protection of our Republic. The House of Representatives should be set at 5 terms which totals 10 years and that the United States Senate set them for 2 terms which totals 12 years. It is my belief that our founding fathers did not intend for members to stay in Congress and make a career of it."
