Chris Head (Republican Party) is a member of the Virginia State Senate, representing District 3. He assumed office on January 10, 2024. His current term ends on January 12, 2028.

Head (Republican Party) ran for election to the Virginia State Senate to represent District 3. He won in the general election on November 7, 2023.

Biography

Head graduated from the University of Georgia, where he studied music education. Head and his wife run a home senior care family business, based in Roanoke and Lynchburg.[1]

Elections for the Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2017. All 100 house seats were up for election. The general election took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on June 13, 2017. The filing deadline for primary election candidates was March 30, 2017. The filing deadline for non-party candidates and candidates nominated by methods other than a primary was June 13, 2017.[2] Incumbent Chris Head (R) defeated Djuna Osborne (D) in the Virginia House of Delegates District 17 general election.[3]

Elections for the Virginia House of Delegates took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 9, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 26, 2015.[6] Incumbent Chris Head defeated Harry Griego in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[7][8]

Head won re-election in the 2013 election for Virginia House of Delegates District 17. Head ran unopposed in the June 11th Republican Primary. He defeated Freeda Cathcart (D) in the general election on November 5, 2013.[9]

Cathcart chose to run for a second time against incumbent Chris Head (R) after losing to him 66 percent to 34 percent in the 2011 election. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney (R) won 59 percent of the vote in this district that wraps around Roanoke in 2012, and Governor Bob McDonnell (R) won with 67 percent of the vote in 2009. Given this uphill climb, Democrats entered the race with little chance of winning this seat, but Cathcart was endorsed by Democracy for America, which indicated that some on the political left believed this race was worth an investment of resources.[10][11][12][13]

On November 8, 2011, Head won election to District 17 of the Virginia House of Delegates. He was uncontested in the August 23 primary and defeated Freeda Cathcart (D) in the November 8 general election.[14]

Head and his wife, Betsy, have three children, Tori, Abby and Michael. For seven years, Head served as a Minister of Music in a church. He has volunteered with the Downtown Roanoke Kiwanis Club and on the board of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. He has volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels.[1]
