Chris Hughes (Alabama)

Chris Hughes is the Republican Place 2 judge for the 37th Circuit Court in Alabama. He was appointed to this position by Gov. Bob Riley on July 16, 2010, to replace retiring Judge John V. Denson. Hughes won election to a full six-year term in the office in 2010. He won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1]
Biography
Hughes earned his B.A. in political science from Auburn University and his J.D. from the University of Alabama. He taught English at the University of Alabama while receiving his J.D. He was previously a partner in the law firm Beers, Anderson, Jackson, Huges & Patty and is currently a partner with Samford and Denson, LLP. Hughes was also an adjunct professor at Jones School of Law.[2]

Alabama held general elections for local judicial offices in 2016. A primary election took place on March 1, 2016, with a primary runoff on April 12, 2016. The general election was held on November 8, 2016.
Incumbent Chris Hughes ran unopposed in the general election for the Alabama 37th Judicial Circuit Place 2 seat.[3]

Hughes won the Republican runoff on July 13, 2010. He then defeated Kenneth E. Gibbs in the general election, earning 64.16 percent of the vote, compared to Gibbs' 35.84 percent.[4][5]
