Candidate Connection

Chris Perri participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on February 26, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Chris Perri's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Campaign Finance Reform

2) End Partisan Gerrymandering
3) Universal Health Care via Medicare for All[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I'm passionate about policies that fight public officials' corruption, as it's nearly impossible for prosecutors to prove a corruption case given the current state of the law related to the definition of ""official act."" Also, I'm passionate about tax reform that simplifies the tax code and removes the loopholes that allow the top 1% to pay lower effective tax rates than firefighters and nurses. That's the first step in combating the extreme wealth concentration that's destroying our economy and democracy.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Chris Perri answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Integrity, compassion, critical-thinking[3]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I'm dedicated to fighting for people of all backgrounds and beliefs, ensuring that the amount of money someone has doesn't determine voice in government.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To represent the needs of all constituents and fight to make their lives better, regardless of party affiliation.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
A stronger democracy where everyone trusts the government and has a fair opportunity to succeed. I want to help restore people's faith in our government so that they are civically engaged.[3]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas -- there's nothing better than having family together and giving to each other. Plus, I love Christmas music.[3]
What is your favorite book? Why?
Station Eleven -- I love how the author (Emily Saint John Mandel) weaves stories from different time periods in this inspiring apocalyptic tale, showing our fundamental interconnectedness and the transcendence of humanity.[3]
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Removing the influence of Big Money in politics so that our government becomes accountable to We the People.[3]
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Ways and Means Committee House Oversight Committee House Ethics Committee[3]
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
The problem with two years is that too much of a representative's time is spent campaigning. Also, the short term length leads representatives to choose what's best in the short-run instead of what may be best for the long-run health of our nation.[3]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
Independent, non-partisan commissions.[3]
Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
Lloyd Doggett -- he is a model for how to effectively conduct constituent services, which instills faith in the government process.[3]
