|Raised in a hardworking, blue-collar household, I learned firsthand the value of labor and community. These early life lessons fueled my passion for union advocacy, where I’ve spent years fighting for fair wages and better working conditions. My roots and my advocacy work have given me a deep understanding of the struggles that many Aurora residents face every day.
It’s precisely because of this understanding that I feel compelled to run. Our city is at a critical juncture, facing issues like rising homelessness, skyrocketing housing costs, and growing concerns about public safety. These aren’t just policy problems; they’re real-life challenges that require a leader who’s been in the trenches.
I’m running because I’m that leader. With a background grounded in lived experience and bolstered by years of advocacy, I will champion practical, empathetic, and fiscally responsible solutions.- For too long, the city council has prioritized developer interests over the housing needs of Aurora's residents. The housing shortage, both affordable and market rate, not only drives up property taxes for everyone but also contributes to the rising number of our unhoused neighbors. It's time to shift that focus. When elected, I'll champion a comprehensive housing strategy that benefits the entire community.
- To address Aurora's multi-layered public safety challenges, we need root cause solutions to crime, and a comprehensive new vision for public safety.
- As Aurora grows, it's crucial that our development focuses on the needs and desires of our residents, the people of Aurora, not just the convenience of cars or the interests of developers. Our community should be more than a series of disjointed neighborhoods—it should be a place where every aspect enriches the lives of the people who call Aurora home.
- Developer Allocation: Require developers to allocate a percentage of new projects for affordable housing units.
- Zoning Revisions: Revise zoning laws to promote mixed-use developments, better utilizing our urban spaces and offering a variety of housing options.
- Public Housing: Allocate city funds to create and sustain public housing options, ensuring every Auroran has a stable home.
- Responsible Redevelopment: Implement practices in older neighborhoods to safeguard against gentrification that erases community character.
- Address the Housing Gap: Actively work to increase the overall housing supply, which will ease the burden on both the rental and property markets, benefiting everyone in Aurora.
- Comprehensive Public Transit: Advocate for a transit system that's not just reliable and frequent, but also inclusive, serving all corners of Aurora including marginalized areas.
- Walkability and Cyclability: Let's make our city's urban areas safe and enjoyable for walking and biking. This not only connects our community but also makes it more eco-friendly.
- Community Spaces: Promote the creation of public spaces where people can gather, socialize, and take part in community activities, all while feeling connected rather than isolated by traffic.
