Chris Schrimpf was a communications director for Doug Burgum's (R) 2024 presidential campaign. He is a communications consultant who previously worked as the communications director at the Republican Party of Ohio.[1] Schrimpf also served as a senior communications advisor for John Kasich's (R) 2016 presidential campaign.[2] Previously, Schrimpf worked on the campaign for Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue (R) in 2006 and on Perdue's staff; Schrimpf has also worked for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and the Republican Governors Association.[1] In 2016, he started the consulting firm Red Tack Strategy with his twin brother Mike.
Career
Chris Schrimpf began working in politics in Georgia, first as the deputy communications director for Gov. Sonny Perdue's re-election campaign.[3] Perdue won re-election with 58 percent of the vote.[4] Schrimpf then worked as deputy press secretary in Perdue's staff.[1]
For the 2007 and 2008 election cycles, Schrimpf worked as the communications director for the Republican Governors Association. He rejoined the group for the 2010 election cycle, this time as the director of political communications. Because his twin brother, Mike Schrimpf, was then the RGA's communications director, the group declared that "two Schrimpfs are better than one."[5]
From 2011 to 2012, Schrimpf worked as the communications director for Scott Walker, governor of Wisconsin. During this time, Schrimpf handled communications for the governor through union protests, a recall election and the beginning of a John Doe investigation. During the recall election, Schrimpf's twin brother, Mike, launched a number of television ads from the Republican Governors Association.[6]
In June 2013, Schrimpf became the communications director for the Republican Party of Ohio.[7]
On May 5, 2015, the Northeast Ohio Media Group reported that Chris Schrimpf was "serving unofficially as a New Day for America spokesman and has accompanied Kasich on some of his early travels."[2] New Day for America was a 527 group that worked to raise money for John Kasich's (R) travel as he considered a presidential run.[8] Kasich announced his bid for the presidency on July 21, 2015.[9] Schrimpf then transitioned to the role of communications director for the campaign.[10] On May 4, 2016, Kasich suspended his presidential campaign.[11]
In June 2016, Schrimpf and his twin brother started the consulting firm Red Tack Strategy. Of the firm, Chris told the Columbus Dispatch, "We plan to do a mix of corporate, nonprofit and political work and are launching with half a dozen clients across that spectrum."[12]
Schrimpf joined Doug Burgum's (R) 2024 presidential campaign as a communications co-director, alongside his brother Mike, in 2023.[13]
