- I didn’t get involved with politics for personal gain, I recognized that our system was broken and it takes someone with intimate knowledge of our district and those who work in it to fix it. Someone who knows our past and will continue to push for changes to policy that provides more transparency to help increase accountability. Having public records requests pending for over a year is a massive problem that should’ve already led to policy changes. Board members intentionally attempting to change policy to make it more tough for the dissenting voice to be heard is not what is best for our community. I will defend the right of someone to amicably dissent even if I disagree with their proposed change.
- The cover-up culture in our district may be reduced from what it used to be, but it still is alive. Our community deserves the unequivocal truth even if it’s ugly. That’s the only way to restore trust that was rightfully lost over time. We need to elect people that want to focus on increasing parental rights, doing right by our teachers and getting our children ready to be productive members of society. Not every child is on a path that leads to college. Let’s provide a robust array of career pathways and help, our children figure out their goals as well as how to achieve them.
- Accountability matters and I believe more is necessary on every level. Board members need to hold each other accountable when they disrespect staff or verbally berate a community member they disagree with at call to audience. Students must be held accountable when their behavior interferes with other students right to a sound basic education. Failing to address these behaviors does a disservice not only to that student, but also to the teachers and classmates affected. We need to get them ready for life and the first time they’re held responsible for their actions shouldn’t be when they end up in a jail cell. I support a robust in school diversion program instead of leaning on out of school suspensions.
