I see politics and electing good people to office as a way to promote the common good. Elected officials make the laws, set the tax rates, and shape the legal system. Almost every part of our lives is affected by the votes of our elected officials. If we want to have a voice, we have to participate to influence the outcome of elections. I speak at public meetings and write letters to the editor advocating for people and causes that need a voice. Listening, asking questions, and communicating with others in good faith is what makes civic life and government better.
  • Women must have control of their own healthcare decisions. Provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all.
  • Make broadband accessible to rural areas. Help save farmland and open space by providing incentives for land conservation.
  • Teach real American history and fully fund public schools. Private school vouchers have no accountability and drain money away from rural schools. There is no realistic alternative to public schools and we must fund them better and pay teachers higher salaries.
Let people vote and protect their right to vote.
Government can't do everything, but it can do many things to make lives better. Do practical things to make life better. Healthcare. Fair voting. Think of the future for those coming after us. Support livable cities. Bike paths, parks and recreation, and a well-rounded education for young people.
I am interested in solving problems. I can work with a wide variety of people.
Fairness and acting and communicating in good faith are core responsibilities. Your office does not belong to you. It is held in trust. Don't diminish your office by spreading mis-information. Show up for work prepared. Be open and available to your constituents. Keep educating yourself. Make an effort to see where other people are coming from even if you don't like their viewpoint.
I would like people to remember me as someone who took risks to help other people.
The greatest challenge will be providing revenue for public schools, protecting voting rights, and creating fair voting districts.
School board, city council, and county commission experience is helpful. But, just as important is a record of public involvement either as a citizen or as an appointee. Knowledge of issues is important.
I was a middle school teacher for many years. Some of the most painful meetings were with aging grandparents trying to raise middle schoolers by themselves. Those grandparents need help from public services and public schools.
Fair redistricting law to restrict gerrymandering
Education and redistricting committees
1) Competitive voting districts make elected official accountable to voters. 2) Independent audits make government more transparent.
