Primary: He was defeated in the Democratic primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 37.1 percent of the vote. He competed against Ingrid Michelle Warren.

Wilmouth defeated Republican Lori Ashmore Peters in the general election, winning 50.79 percent of the vote.[6]
