Chris Wolcott is a lifelong resident of Sevier County, Arkansas. He is married to Tonya Wolcott and has 5 children, ranging from ages 7 to 30. Chris started his career in law enforcement as a jailer for the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department in 1996. He was promoted to a patrol deputy in 1997. During this time as a patrol deputy, Chris was a narcotics detection K-9 officer. During his career, he received about 1,200 hours of training - some of which include: drug enforcement preparation, hostage crisis negotiation, and domestic abuse education. In Chris’s career as a patrol officer, he was able to see the effects of drug addiction on the community and on individual families including his own. Chris was promoted to Jail Administrator in 2016. In 2017, working with Sheriff Robert Gentry, they implemented Inmate Programs and Services allowing all minimum-security inmates the opportunity to attend various programs that could impact their potential to rehabilitate. Chris also finds great importance in community service. As a result he started a 4-H group to serve everyone. He believes that a great leader is a great servant.
  • Mental Health Reform
  • Prison Sentence Reform
  • Legislation To Help Law Enforcement Officers And Their Families
I believe we as a state have to invest in our future. I believe that investment starts with our children. Arkansas is ranked fourth in the nation for violent crime, and we have a prison population that is growing yearly. We have to decide now if we want to invest our money into youth and family services or if we want to continue to invest our money into prison beds. I strongly believe that investment needs to be in our children. We will never be able to incarcerate our way out of the social problems we face today.
I look up to Jesus Christ. I try to follow his example to the best of my ability each and everyday because I am a grateful believer that he is our Lord and Savior.
I would recommend watching The Program: Prison Detox streamed on Discovery Plus. This series features the program that I co created with Sevier County Sheriff Robert Gentry.
Honesty and integrity are the most important characteristics for an elected official.
The qualities that I possess that would make me a successful officeholder are loyalty, honesty, integrity, compassion, and the ability to listen to others.
I believe that the most important core responsibility of an elected official is to properly serve all of his or her constituents.
I would like to be remembered for helping others.
The Fall of the Berlin Wall is the first historical event that I remember happening in my life time.
My first job was in construction for a total of five years.
My favorite book is The Grapes of Wrath. It is my favorite book because it shows the struggles that people endure. It shows that sometimes it is at no fault of their own.
I believe that the ideal relationship between a governor and a state legislature is compromise. The two entities must work together for the betterment of the state. When compromise is nonexistent the people suffer.
I believe that Arkansas's greatest challenge over the next decade is the mental health crisis, substance abuse disorder, and lack of youth and family services.
I do not believe that it is necessarily beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in politics. I believe that legislatures are supposed to be for the people and by the people.
I do believe that it is beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. I believe that by working across the aisle more can be accomplished for the citizens of Arkansas and District 87.
I believe that redistricting should be completed by using the population and appropriate representation.
A story that has strongly impacted me is that of a father that contacted me about his 13 year old daughter having suicidal thoughts. He informed me that his daughter needed mental health treatment, but it took three months to find a facility that would provide her mental health services. This is unacceptable and must be addressed.
I believe that compromise is necessary for policymaking.
