Christian F. Hummel is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. He first joined the court in 2012. He was re-appointed in 2020.

Prior to joining the district court, Hummel was a judge for the Rensselaer County Surrogate's Court in New York. He was elected to this position in 2002.[1]

As of 2015, Hummel also served as an acting justice of the Rensselaer County Supreme Court.[2]

Education

Hummel attended the State University of New York, Plattsburgh, for his undergraduate degree and Albany Law School for his J.D.[1][3]

Professional career

Hummel served as the town justice of East Greenbush from 1986 to 1992. He was then elected to the Rensselaer County Family Court, where he served from 1993 to 2001. In 2002, he joined the Surrogate's Court.[1]

Judicial career

Hummel joined the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York in 2012.[4] He was re-appointed to a second term in 2020.[5]

Hummel ran successfully for re-election on November 8, 2011, winning 99.81 percent of the vote.[6]
