Christian Martine was born and raised in Raleigh County as the son of WVEA and AFT educators and the grandson of a coal miner. He began his community involvement as a student at Shady Spring High School, where he advocated for youth substance abuse prevention after being appointed to then-Governor Joe Manchin's West Virginia Partnership for Community Well-Being and served on the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee. As a young professional, Christian wants West Virginia to be a place where our young people want to plant roots and where working families can find great schools, work, and healthcare. Today, Christian works at Glassdoor, which has the mission "to help people everywhere find a job and company they love." Christian and his wife, Andrea, live in Beaver. They have one dog, Mango, a lovable pup rescued from the Humane Society of Raleigh County.
  • Help West Virginia businesses thrive and create good paying jobs that bolster our economy and keep young people in-state.
  • Reduce the cost of prescription drugs and ensure that all West Virginians can afford the medication that they need.
  • Invest in our schools and educators, give our teachers and support personnel a fair wage and provide our kids with the resources they need to succeed.
As a Raleigh County native, I'm proud of my Mountaineer roots. But West Virginia needs to be more than just a nice place to be from. It needs to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, a place where our kids have the opportunity to stay, a place where all families can have safe, good-paying jobs and a place where everyone has the critical tools and skills to compete in a global, internet-driven economy. To do this, I'm focused on investing in our educators, attracting and keeping good-paying jobs, and investing in the tools we all need to thrive: accessible healthcare, strong roads, high-speed internet, affordable childcare, and resources to heal our communities from drug addiction.
Just as we know the importance of getting to know our community, members of the House of Delegates must get to know each other. Before our party or district, we are fellow West Virginians. We must approach every hard issue with patience and mutual respect, and a good rapport with fellow Delegates is an important step toward civility.
Debate and compromise are critical in a democracy. When we disagree with one another as neighbors in West Virginia, we have a frank discussion and work toward a mutual agreement. The House of Delegates was formed so we may solve hard policy discussions through debate and craft policy solutions that will work for all West Virginians.
