I'm a small business owner and 10+ year attorney. My husband is a CT in the Navy, and my dad was an Army Ranger, so I've lived in many different places and have an understanding of the unique lifestyle that comes from military life.
  • I'm committed to resolving our housing shortage with workforce housing solutions. In the short term, we need permit improvements, ADUs and to fill the county's empty District 2 seat on the Planning Commission. As a longer term solutions, we need downtown housing developments. These will lead to increased foot traffic to nearby restaurants, more jobs for residents here, and more access to those jobs-- sans car-- with proximity to Island Transit hubs. Downtown density will also prevent sprawl, thus preserving our rural character. It will also concentrate our growing population where the resources already exist.
  • As a rural community, we rely heavily on our limited healthcare resources. I will work on protecting our healthcare access here in Island County for all residents, especially women, military families (TRICARE) and VA beneficiaries. I will work with our state legislators to attempt to alleviate the staffing issues we've seen, and to expand public health services within the county. We also need SANE certified nurses and police co-responders throughout the county. I will prioritize support of these positions in the decisions the county makes, as they support the health of all residents, keep the public safe and allow law enforcement to concentrate on their intended scope of work.
  • I will support quality of life improvements for residents here-- specifically: opportunities for more childcare facilities; bike paths and trails; land trusts; and more EV charging stations for our visitors. I would like to see a "bridge-to-ferry" trail one day, which would increase tourism and move pedestrians to safety off of walking on the shoulder of SR-20 and SR-525.
Personally, I am very passionate about the environment. I volunteer for the Orca Network, and support the Climate Commitment Act. Sea level rise is a huge issue in our county, especially on our south end. It doesn't have an easy solution, but I will work with residents who are affected most by it, and the scientists, engineers and other professionals we need to work together to combat the effects of climate change.
The ability to listen. If an official can't or won't listen to their constituents, they are not worthy of leading them.
I worked at a tack shop (horse store) for several years in high school, and I also trained horses in high school and college.
