|- Fair Property Tax Assessments- Property taxes must be fair, and it begins with fair assessments. I will work with the County Executive and the Assessment department to ensure this process is economical to all homeowners. To learn more about what has already been put in place, see my blog in the News section of my site regarding Tyler Technologies.
- Crime & Drugs - Drugs are a major issue in our communities. I stand for funding of community programs and groups that educate and work to prevent drug use and distribution. And I strongly stand with our law enforcement and funding their efforts. The "defund the police" movement hurt many neighborhoods. We have seen an increase in crime and drug poisonings and overdoses and a decrease in police presence. See my blog on the Jackson County COMBAT funds to learn more about the programs that the county funds and how I believe we can create a safer and stronger community.
- A Balanced and Economical Budget - I believe in a balanced, fair, and economical budget. Excess spending hurts our community. We need to prioritize our spending and take our responsibility of allocating taxpayer dollars seriously. I would be proud to stand against frivolous spending and will work hard to make sure YOUR money is spent in a manner that benefits you and our community as a whole.
Jackson County residents deserve transparency with our tax dollars and for our elected officials to be held accountable when they take advantage of their positions. Unfortunately, the County Executive and County Assessor positions have no one to hold them accountable, which has resulted in Jackson County residents being forced to pay unfair property tax amounts. I will sponsor legislation that will allow the voters to decide on distribution of power. I propose that we give the county legislature jurisdiction over the offices of County Executive and County Assessor. This will prevent these offices from making hasty decisions without any oversight or repercussions allowing the county legislature the ability to have a voice on important issues by creating checks and balances and will allow for more discussions and opinions on issues before a decision is made giving you, the voter, a voice.
