Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio. I am the youngest of six kids. Graduated from Wheatley High School in 1985 and began my career with the District Clerk's office in 1986. My family (Dad and 2 sisters and a brother) and I, collectively, have served Bexar County for 136 years. Being a public servant is who I am. Serving my community is who I am, and will continue to be, if elected to office. My 33 years of experience within this office runs deep. My hands-on institutional knowledge, including 23 years in a leadership role matters. Experience Matters!! I began as an entry level clerk, was promoted to a supervisor for 15 years and lastly promoted to a Division Chief and did that for 8 years. I did the work; I know the work and will continue to do the work. I am truly familiar with the ins and outs of this office. My community is my priority. I am running with passion and purpose because 33 years of my life were spent in this office. I lived and breathed this office. First to get to work and last to leave. I am running because I know my plans will take this office to the next level, and they will bring innovation and much-needed convenience for our community. I also want staff to love their job, as I did when I worked there. I know I can bring that to this office. I am not running for a title. Titles mean nothing to me. People before politics is my stance. Again, Experience Matters!!

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• ONLINE ACCESSIBILITY. My first priority is to make public records accessible online. Currently, if you have a civil case, family case with the District Clerk's office you cannot pull up the documents in their entirety. If you want a copy of your file, you must drive downtown to the Paul Elizondo Tower, pay roughly $20.00 for parking and stand in line to get into the building. I want you to be in the comfort of your home or office and have the capability to pull up your file, take a look at your documents and print out a copy for a minimal fee, if needed. My platform is based on simplifying dealings with the District Clerk's Office.
• EXPEDITED/CURBSIDE SERVICE. When I think about this plan, I think about our seniors, veterans and first responders. The customer would call in, pay for their copies and I would have a couple of employees dedicated to take these calls, prepare order and run down to deliver copies to customer. The customer never has to step into the building and wait and wonder where to go to be assisted. My thoughts are these community members have served our community in one way or another and deserve to be served quickly and without inconvenience.
• INTERNSHIP PROGRAM for High School and College students. My platform has every generation in mind. I want these students to gain hands on experience in an office environment. Also, ideally, I would love to have a satellite office at each of the 4 Precincts in Bexar County. My thoughts are community outreach, I want to branch out and come closer to you as opposed to you having to travel downtown and be inconvenienced. People before Politics.

SERVING THE COMMUNITY

I am committed to restoring consistency and stability to the office of the Bexar County District Clerk. I will also work to improve the quality of customer service and streamline service response times and systems to ensure fairness and equitable application of policies. I plan on dedicating time on technology by bringing online document access to view and/or purchase copies while in the convenience of your home/office. My commitment to improvements and expanding access include the establishment of satellite hubs to allow for subsequent filings and document execution that will eliminate downtown congestion, unnecessary travel and parking fees. Collaboration with other county departments and elected officials will ensure improvements and strategic goals are met.

MAINTAINING ACCOUNTABILITY

I plan to implement innovative and strategic policies to improve communication with all stakeholders involved in business conducted with the District Clerk’s office. The District Clerk is the face of the office and Department and should be present at all times. The District Clerk must also work openly with overlapping elected officials, the legal community, businesses and families to ensure the best outcomes.

RESTORING INTEGRITY

I believe the District Clerk sets the tone for the office and workplace. Employers should lead by example and every employee deserves to feel like they are on an even playing field receiving equitable resources to perform their jobs to the best of their ability. Employees should also receive equal treatment regardless of their position or title. I am committed to improving the morale and atmosphere within the office of the District Clerk. Every employee is a community member and should always be treated with respect. I have a plan to open the lines of communication with all employees to implement regular weekly and monthly meetings and workshops to provide an opportunity for all employees to share ideas and suggestions to simplify duties, improve productivity, and streamline training.
