Campaign themes

2014

Greig's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Empowering Women

  • Excerpt: "Women make up only 19% of the Michigan legislature, even though we are 53% of the electorate. At the same time the United States Congress is at a 20 year-high for female membership, Michigan is at a 20 year-low for elected women. When a political body is that imbalanced, policies that hurt women’s freedom and choice are enacted into law. We need to have conversations in Lansing that reflect who we are as a state."

Growing Our Economy

  • Excerpt: "As we try to find solutions to Michigan’s economy, there is one very important lesson we should remember from our past. When Henry Ford announced to a shocked nation on January 5, 1914, that he would raise his workers’ pay to $5 Dollars a Day, double the prevailing wage, his business and Detroit changed dramatically. Workers from the South fled north for good paying jobs. Henry Ford had been troubled by absenteeism, turnover and low demand."

Investing in Education

  • Excerpt: "Education is the basis for closing the opportunity gap. We must continue to provide a strong and vibrant public education that values the whole child. We must invest in our schools and in programs that develop 21st-century skills for our children. To achieve excellence in education for all students, all stakeholders must come together to develop programs that prepare our students. We must value the challenging work our teachers face each day, and we need to provide them with the tools and resources they need to reach every child's potential for learning."

Protecting Our Environment

  • Excerpt: "When the President said in the State of the Union Address that “Climate Change” is a fact and we need to deal with it, he sent a strong message to Americans; the debate has long been over and we are seeing the weather extremes predicted by the climate models in front of our eyes every day. While North America saw record lows, Australia suffered record heat of 120 degrees. Water scarcity is now a reality in the United States."

Serving Our Community

  • Excerpt: "Christine has always been involved in our community. She knows the heart of Michigan is its people -- and being active in the community on a daily basis is how you build an even better place to live, work and play."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Michigan

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
