I am proud Nevada native, a product of Washoe County’s public schools, and a current WCSD parent. I am incredibly passionate about education and have been an educator for over 20 years.

I am a licensed Social Studies teacher and currently support teachers and students as the Program Director for the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement (NVCCE, a nonpartisan, non-profit organization that serves students all over the Silver State in Civics and History Education programs like We the People, History Day, and more).

I am running for the District A seat on the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees because I know that my expertise and experiences can provide a unique perspective - I would be the only former WCSD teacher on the board. I want to be an advocate for our students and staff to have the best educational opportunities we can provide for them.
  • Adaptation: our schools must meet the realities of our world, from technology to chronic absenteeism, bullying issues, and special education. Understanding what will and will not work in a classroom is fundamental to doing this right… or not. My experience in classrooms across the district and state can help guide the board to make decisions that improve our schools, make teachers’ lives easier, and avoid unintended consequences.
  • Inquiry-based learning, skill building, and collaboration: I believe this we should be focusing on as we develop and update curriculum, classroom materials, mentorship, and everything that goes into a school environment. This type of instruction will ensure our students are successful members of our community and that it empowers and motivates them to work hard and have fun learning at the same time.
  • Equitable opportunities for all our schools: They should all have modern learning spaces and materials, but the people who are in those classrooms, hallways, libraries, cafeterias, buses, and front offices are the people who make the difference. The overall most pressing issue is our investment in our workforce, the people who engage and interact with students every single day.

Sustainable Community Growth
Elected officials should be servant leaders, who are open-minded, compassionate, and patient.
Education is the cornerstone of our community's future. The school board's decisions directly impact every student, teacher, and family in our district.

Because our school board sets the policies that shape the quality of education our children receive, a core responsibility of a board member is to be passionate and dedicated to our education system.

Another core responsibility of a school board trustee is to foster inclusivity, committing to equality and inclusion in our school system. A diverse and inclusive learning environment is essential for every student to thrive, and where every child feels valued and supported.

A major role of the school board is to oversee the allocation of funds, determining how resources are distributed among schools and programs. School Board Trustees must be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars to ensure that money is spent wisely and efficiently.

Another core responsibility of a School Board Trustee is to encourage community involvement and collaboration by listening to the voices of parents, teachers, and students and fostering a sense of partnership in shaping our educational priorities.

It is also a core responsibility to ensure that the school board is preparing for the future, the decisions made by the board shape the future of our community. When we invest in education and innovation, we prepare our students to become the leaders and changemakers of our community.
I was in college on 9/11, and the City of San Diego (where I was in school) was pretty much shut down for almost a week. I was the president of my sorority at the time and learned a lot about being a leader, a community member, a compassionate human, and pride in our country.
My very first job was at the local roller rink, I worked there for about 6 months after I turned 16. My favorite part was getting to be in the DJ booth, I loved watching people connect with others on the skating floor, light up when their favorite song came on, or gain confidence each lap around the rink.
As a government teacher, I could say the voters are the constituents, but it's more than that. The kids in school now will become our community’s future mechanics, nurses, teachers, business owners, and more. This means our entire community is served by our schools. A school board trustee's constituents are the students, teachers, parents, employees, grandparents, employers, and community members as a whole.
I firmly believe in inquiry-driven learning, a philosophy where learning starts with igniting curiosity but moves learners to a deeper understanding of the topic using critical thinking skills. This gives students ownership of their learning and allows them to connect across curricular areas. Inquiry-driven learning allows for authentic assessment and flexibility within the curriculum for differentiation to meet the needs of each student. Inquiry-driven learning empowers students to become active participants in their learning journey, fostering a deep understanding of content and a passion for learning and preparing them for success in the 21st century.

As the Chair of the Zoning Advisory Committee, I committed to connecting with and visiting the schools impacted by the Zoning decisions we make. I will do the same as a School Board Trustee. Visiting schools and attending parent meetings regularly is crucial to me, and I will use school visits as an opportunity to keep the dialogue open between myself and each community I serve.
