As a single parent, I raised two children who now have children of their own. One of my granddaughters is Autistic with other disabilities. I was born and raised in Wichita and have lived here most of my life. My father was self-employed. I learned my work ethic from him. I retired from the United States Postal Service but continued working for the American Postal Workers Union. I have spent over 30 years negotiating solutions to workers problems. I was asked to run by former co-workers because they believe my experience can help negotiate solutions for working Kansans.
  • Our votes count! In 2022, the issue of reproductive freedom was on the ballot. Kansans voted. Yet the current representatives will not "accept" this vote and continue to pass bills that attack that freedom. I will stand against these efforts.
  • Medicaid expansion is long overdue in Kansas. We are one of only 10 states that have NOT passed this. We continue to have friends and neighbors go without the care they need due to this failure.
  • Public education requires FULL funding to operate. Kansas is providing the minimum required and that is not enough! Special education needs continue to increase while the funding is not keeping up. Public dollars belong in public schools.
I am personally ;passionate about reproductive freedom. The government should NOT interfere between a woman and her doctor. I am passionate about better funding for public schools. Our schools have had to cut back on essential services and maintenance to function within the funds they are provided. I am passionate about medicaid expansion. The new mental health facility, going up in my district, can't help the people it is designed to, if we don't get them this coverage to pay for it.
The core responsibilities for someone in elected office is to represent the citizens that voted for them. This includes listening to their needs and responding through legislation.
I was 6 when the US landed on the moon. I watched it on a black and white television.
My first job was setting appointments for Olan Mills photography. I think I only had it about 6 months. Then, like most teenagers, I did some fast food work. My first "adult" job was as a file clerk.
I have struggled financially like most single parents. For a while, I paid 2 babysitters because I worked graveyard shifts. One sitter when I worked and my kids slept, the other while I slept!
It would be good. The citizens of the state should be able to force legislation that the elected representatives refuse to deal with. Every state around Kansas has this ability but Kansas does not.
