The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 8, 2016.[1] Christine Rodriguez defeated incumbent Chris J. Schultz in the Bernalillo Metropolitan Court general election for Division 2.[2]

Judges of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court are each appointed to four-year terms by the governor.[3] After this initial term, judges stand in retention elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a member of the state bar and have three years of law practice in New Mexico.[4]
