I'm a father, husband, small business owner and IT Engineer driven by a need to improve conditions in our communities. After losing my home in the CZU fires and experiencing the difficulty engaging with county government to recover, I knew I needed to step up and fight for the community I loved. I am a member of the board of directors for Fire Safe Santa Cruz County, and am deeply engaged in wildfire prevention efforts, doing what I can to help our communities become resilient to disaster. I listen closely to my neighbors, my community, about the things they need and think are most important to address -- being community-driven is at the heart of what we do. I am present, vocal, and forward thinking as a problem-solver. Having been a businessman in addition to having non-profit experience gives me a wide-ranging skill set, that I'm ready to put to work for the people of the 5th. I can meet the people where they are, because I am one of them.
  • We need deep cultural change in county government; the status quo needs to go.
  • Transparency and communication are key for effective governance. When in office we will be present, connected and broadly available to the community.
  • County government needs to rebuild trust; with engaged representation, committed to transparency and powerful advocacy for the communities needs, we can change how things are done and get better results for the 5th.
I'm passionate about housing, about infrastructure, and about disaster preparedness.
My parents, who always choose that which elevates our family. My martial-arts sensei Hans Ingebretsen, who is a pillar of integrity and a font of wisdom. My wife, who is always willing to fight for the folks who need a voice.
Openness, integrity, and the ability to listen deeply to the community being served. Believing in accountability personally and professionally, and acting aggressively for the interests of the folk who put them in that seat
I am a person who believes in integrity, who walks the talk, and who folks can rely on. I pride myself on doing the right thing, even when no-one is looking. I'm disciplined and technically skilled, with the background we will need moving forward to handle technical challenges posed by climate change, artificial intelligence, and a difficult housing market.
Responsible representation, advocacy for the community, having a deep understanding of the issues and proposed solutions for anything that impacts the district, so that wise choices can be made. Voting in the interest of the district, and approving budgets that move those interests forward.
I want my children to be persons of great personal integrity and power. I want them to be the sort of folks who move through the world with sharp minds and kind hearts. My personal legacy is them; I would hope that when I leave, I've done enough good that the world is sad to see me go.
The explosion of the challenger space shuttle; can't recall how old I was, definitely in the single digits.
As a cook at Pizza Hut, in Oahu when I was 15. Held it for about 3 years.
3 Books of Occult Philosophy by Henry Cornelius Agrippa; I've studied the Hermetic philosophies since I was young, and this book was a powerful aid to the imagination when I was young.
Hmm. I wouldn't mind Deadpool's immortality and Invulnerability....but I also like being handsome, so that one might have to go. Perhaps John Constantine. Achieved massive things in a world full of fanciful, powerful supernatural creatures....as a normal man, applying his bravery and intelligence.
I've had many struggles. Early loss of loved ones has been very hard, including a four year old son to illness, and my first wife to suicide.
Without financial transparency, and government accountability, you have a guarantee of government corruption. My mother has a saying that I live by -- " Sunlight Sanitizes". Nothing that is good and proper needs to be hidden to thrive.
